Bachelor of Nursing

Students who wish to study the Bachelor of Nursing must first decide whether to apply through QTAC for the Mater program or South East Queensland program. Students may wish to list the Mater program as their first preference and South East Queensland as their second preference, or vice versa.

Once you have received an offer for this program, you will be able to indicate your preferences for the following options (please note preferences will be capacity related).

  • Mater Hospital South Brisbane
    • Clinical teaching and clinical shifts will primarily be undertaken at Mater South Brisbane
       
  • Mater Hospital Redlands
    • Clinical teaching and clinical shifts will primarily be undertaken at Mater Redlands
       
  • Ipswich/Mater Springfield
    • Clinical teaching is undertaken at Ipswich Clinical School located within the USQ campus at Ipswich
    • Clinical shifts will primarily be undertaken at Mater Springfield

South-East Queensland Program – QTAC code 728002

Once you have received an offer for this program, you will be able to indicate your preferences for the following options.

  • Holy Spirit Northside
    • Clinical shifts will primarily be undertaken at Holy Spirit Northside Hospital
    • Clinical teaching at RBWH
  • Ipswich Hospital
    • Clinical teaching at Ipswich clinical school
    • Clinical shifts will primarily be undertaken at Ipswich Hospital
  • Redlands Hospital
    • Clinical teaching at Redlands clinical school
    • Clinical shifts will primarily be undertaken at Redlands Public Hospital and Logan hospital.

Final Year elective

Students in their final year of study (both Mater and South East Queensland Programs) will have the opportunity to undertake a clinical elective in a specialty nursing area of your choice. Electives may be undertaken at any of the clinical schools, other hospitals or healthcare organisations and settings, subject to availability.

Electives are capacity dependent and may be undertaken in the following areas relative to your program:

  • Acute Medical/Surgical
  • Aged Care
  • Community Health
  • Paediatric Care
  • Indigenous Health
  • Mental Health
  • Palliative Care Nursing
  • Rural Health

  • Redlands Hospital

Master of Nursing Studies - 2016 clinical school

The Master of Nursing Studies graduate entry program is conducted at the Princess Alexandra Hospital campus with lectures, clinical teaching, and problem based learning based in the Translational Research Institute. To enter the Master of Nursing Studies program, students must meet the prerequisite learning requirements, including a first degree in another subject that does not lead to nurse registration in Australia. In the final year of study, there will be an opportunity to undertake an elective clinical placement in areas such as paediatric intensive care, emergency, intensive care, coronary care, operating theatres, community health, general practice, Indigenous health, mental health, and rural/remote areas. All placements are subject to availability.
