Clinical school placements

You will be advised of your clinical school by Orientation Week, in late February. This advice will be sent to the email address you gave QTAC.   Do not book accommodation until you know your clinical school.

Your tasks

1. Organise your email and documentation asap

Your UQ email address is used for the delivery of all official UQ emails, so you need to check it regularly. Get your UQ email through my.UQ or have it forwarded to another address. For assistance with logging into my.UQ, setting up your devices or forwarding your email, contact IT support.

You need to provide us with a lot of documentation before you can start your clinical placement.  Some of it will take weeks to organise so get started now.  Lodge all your documentation with the School office by mid-February or sooner.

Download and print the immunisation form (PDF, 640KB) and lodge it with us. You will need to get a doctor to complete this and they may need to run tests or order vaccines for you.

Blue Card

Download and print the Blue Card application form (PDF, 187KB) - complete part D and lodge it with us. Bring two forms of identification such as a driver's licence and Medicare card. We will submit the form for you. This form is for renewal applications for current card holders too.

First Aid Certificate

Show us a copy of your First Aid and CPR Certificate. First Aid training providers include our school, UQ SportSt John’s AmbulanceQueensland Ambulance Service and TAFE Queensland.

Queensland Health orientation

You need to understand Queensland Health requirements regardless of where your clinical placement will be. Read Queensland Health orientation requirements, complete the Queensland Health Orientation Checklist and lodge it with us.

Deed poll

Complete the Student Deed Poll for Australian Students or Student Deed Poll for international students and lodge it with us.

Occupational Health and Safety Certificate

Complete Occupational Health and Safety Orientation (username: external, password: elmo) and print your certificate twice. You will need to give us one copy and retain the other so you can produce it at Queensland Health's request at any time.

Fitness to Undertake Clinical Practice Questionnaire

Download, print and complete the Fitness to Undertake Clinical Practice Questionnaire (PDF, 273KB) - return it to us in an envelope marked confidential and addressed to the Undergraduate Program Director.

Criminal history check

Get a National Police Certificate (criminal history check) and show it to us - retain this certificate so you can produce it on demand during your clinical placements.  We do not keep a copy of this certificate.

3. In February

Enrol in courses

Look up your course list and enrol in these classes via SI-net.

 Don't worry about:

  • signing on for lectures or tutorials. You are not required to do this for your program.
  • timetable clashes. Your clinical lecturer will explain how your timetable works during orientation.

Arrange your uniform

Order at least 2 UQ Nursing or Midwifery polo shirts. Download and print the order form (PDF, 89KB) and lodge it with us by 20 February.  Also arrange your own:

  • smart black trousers, shorts or skirt with the uniform shirt.  Gaberdine or polyester fabrics with at least one pocket work best.  Denim is not acceptable.
  • fully enclosed lace-up shoes in either black or navy.

You will collect your shirts from us before your placement. Any orders not collected within three months of the delivery date will be returned to stock and all payments will be forfeited. Orders cannot be changed or cancelled. Please note: all prices are correct at the time of publication, however, may be subject to change.

Get textbooks

Apply for a book prize if you need help purchasing textbooks.

Attend orientation

You will attend orientation at the St Lucia Campus during Orientation Week. During orientation, we recommend that you attend the Jump Start Academic Preparation Program which will equip you to succeed at academic assessment. We will also give you your timetable for March. You will also be required to attend orientation at your clinical school.

Get your badge

Purchase a badge to identify your course and year of study (this is different to your Student Identification card).  Your clinical school will require that you wear your badge at all times. To purchase a badge, pay $7 at the Student Centre, then present your receipt and student card to the school office to be issued with one.

Clear your diary for March

You will attend sessions at your clinical site or a University campus Monday to Friday for the first four weeks. It is vital that you organise any other commitments so they do not clash with this as you will be undergoing intensive preparation for your first clinical placement, which starts in week five. Attendance at all scheduled sessions of the training program is compulsory.

Congratulations on your offer.  We look forward to meeting you at Orientation.
