Dr Michelle Denton is a Lecturer and Research Fellow in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. She is Program Director of the Master of Mental Health Nursing Program.
Michelle commenced her career as a general and mental health nurse before completing an MBA and spending 20 years in management, policy and research roles in Queensland Health. Positions included Manager of the Brisbane North Menthadone Program, Manager of the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital Alcohol and Drug Service, Acting Manager of the Mental Health Policy Branch in Queensland Health and Locum Manager of the Queensland Refugee Health Service. She has also held positions as Senior Research Nurse and Clinical Nurse Consultant (Research) in community mental health and as a Research Fellow at Griffith University.
She completed her PhD in 2014 on the experience of prisoners with a mental illness returning to the community. Michelle recently had the opportunity to spend a week hosted by Kings College London, training in Experience Based Co-Design. She has an ongoing interest in the health service user experience and partnering with consumers, patients, carers and families in co-designing user centric health services.
