Researcher biography

Karen holds an Honorary Senior Research Fellow position at the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital and the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Queensland, Brisbane Australia. Karen's research focus is maternal and neonatal outcomes including preconception and early pregnancy care. Karen has a keen interest in improving maternal and neonatal outcomes in low resource countries, in particularly those in our pacific region. Karen is a consultant, undertaking systematic, literature and critical reviews for the University of Southern Queensland and the University of the Sunshine Coast; sessional teaching and marking at a number of Universities. Karen is currently advising 4 PhD students (3 national and 1 International) and 1 international MPhil student.

Karen is actively involved in not-for-profit associations including The Council of International Neonatal Nurses, The Australian College of Neonatal Nurses (ACNN), the ACNN Low Resouce Countries Special Interest Group and the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand, the peak multi-disciplinary scientific society for perinatal care.
