Description of the Student Council

The Student Council acts as a liaison between the School of NMSW staff and students. We relay important information that may affect your program and notify you of any upcoming events. We do this through our Facebook group (link below). We encourage students to express ideas, feedback, or concerns with us via this page so that we can present this to the School for action. If you aren’t comfortable posting on the page, or if your issue is of a personal nature, please contact us via email.
Please note: What you post on the Facebook group is between yourself, other members in the group and the School of NMSW at UQ. This page is strictly monitored by the Student Council Executive. We are sure that everyone will be respectful of one another, however, anything deemed inappropriate will be removed.
We look forward to engaging with you all!

Meet the Student Council Executive Members

Co-Chair
Erikka Dunning

My name is Erikka, and I am a Mununjali woman. I was born in Brisbane, grew up in Brisbane and have stayed in Brisbane to the point that my first time out of Queensland was by accident (but that’s a story for another time). I am a 4th year Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) student minoring in Health and Ageing. I am interested in and passionate about many areas of social work including: health, mental health, grief and loss, policy and legislation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs, and more. I am also passionate about making the student experience on campus a positive one, so if you want to ask questions, give feedback or generally have a chat please email me or the UQ NMSW Student Council email. A fun fact about me: I crochet and watch a lot of TV shows in my spare time.

Co-Chair
Ellen Hersee

I grew up fairly close to Brisbane in the Redlands and after high school I moved on campus to Duchesne College whilst completing a Bachelor of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at UQ. After graduating I decided I would like to pursue nursing and I am currently in my final semester of the Master of Nursing Studies program.

After graduating I hope to remain in Brisbane to start working as a graduate nurse. Eventually I would love to work in the Emergency Department. I have completed two clinical placements in both rural and paediatric emergency departments and loved every minute of it.
Please feel free to contact the Student Council or myself with any feedback, suggestions or issues.

Deputy Chair
Anjee Jones

I am a 2nd year Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) student minoring in Mental Health. I am passionate about mental health, gender and politics – these also being the areas I wish to work in after I graduate. In my spare time, I’m either battling possums on the veranda or practicing yoga on the veranda – sometimes simultaneously.

Treasurer
Jamie Flanjak

I am a Brisbane based third-year dual degree student. Since beginning my degree I have shown a keen interest in either Midwifery Led Care, Intensive Care Nursing or Surgical/Theatre Nursing. I am passionate about taking care of my fur baby, keeping fit with outdoor activities and catching up with friends and family over a good coffee and a chat. I love the experience of being another crutch and support for a mother during her pregnancy and hope that in the future I can continue this after my studies. Furthermore, if there were any communication or queries to be made, please contact me via email or email the Student Council.

Secretary
Meaghan Firmin

I was born in Hong Kong, but I’ve lived in Australia since I was 5 years old. I am in my second year of studying a bachelor of midwifery and in my time studying I found that I am particularly interested in rural or remote practice to challenge myself and gain the unique experience that rural or remote Australia has to offer. I am passionate about providing evidence based patient centred care. A fun fact about me is that I’m a twin!
