Counselling

The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work and the School of Psychology offer a Master of Counselling to provide graduate students with an in-depth knowledge base and the practical skills of professional counselling.

Many people working within the human service professions (social workers, psychologists, medical practitioners, nurses, educators, the clergy, physical therapists, and others) consider counselling to be an important part of the work that they do. In addition, the number of full-time, professional counsellors is increasing. Counsellors are employed in many areas such as non-government organisations, government services, schools, general practice and community health settings as well as in private practice.

Study counselling at UQ

Our counselling students

The diversity UQ offers is the best learning experience and was the most enjoyable thing for me. Making connections with people from different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds has broadened my knowledge. This is complemented by the challenging assignments and the practical work I had to do. The field placement has helped me to develop my knowledge in counselling and apply my learnings in real settings.
