As an undergraduate student you can design a degree that brings together your interests, ambitions and talents in ways that really broaden your horizons and boost your employability.

If you’re ready for a new direction or want to specialise, UQ’s choices for postgraduate programs can diversify or deepen your knowledge and experience or offer a research-based career.

Reputation

UQ has won more awards for teaching and learning than any other Australian university. Our School staff have contributed to this achievement and continue to initiate new techniques for engaging learners in theory and application.

Many School staff also hold key positions on the boards of national and international associations, which illustrates the high regard for their expertise within the healthcare, human services and social work sectors.

500+ placement hours

Nursing and midwifery students begin their clinical experience from Semester 1. Placements are available at multiple UQ clinical schools, including hospitals in the greater Brisbane area and Queensland’s unique Translational Research Institute.

UQ social work and human services field education offers placement options in urban, rural, remote, interstate and international locations. Students can gain experience with government departments, community organisations, private companies and humanitarian agencies.

Program content

UQ’s renowned research strengths underpin our learning programs, including the School’s own focus on:

  • Quality Health Systems
  • Health Across the Lifespan
  • Chronic Conditions
  • Populations
  • Social Problems and Wellbeing
  • Intersection of Policy, Professional Practice and Stakeholder Experience
  • Evaluation and Intervention Research
  • Professional Education and Training

This ensures that our students are applying the latest knowledge to problems raised in their academic studies, clinical and practice experiences.

UQ’s well-established partnerships with public institutions, private enterprises and community organisations enable our students to engage meaningfully with a wide range of patients and service users, as well as with experienced mentors and potential employers.
