Resources for social work and counselling students

In the Bachelor of Social Work [pre-2017] and Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) [2017 onwards], honours is an in-course program, which means students graduating with honours graduate at the usual time and do not undertake additional semesters. Moreover, BSocWk and BSocWk(Hons) does not require any additional work within the program, but is based on achievement in the program.  There are, however, specific courses that students must complete to be eligible to graduate for honours.

For new students to NMSW, the handbooks provide: 

• an orientation to the School and its structure and administrative arrangements;
• a summary outline of the curriculum; and
• some suggested contact points for seeking further information and problem solving.

If you want to work overseas after graduating, the Student Administration Team can assist you with the compilation of your academic information and placements for professional registration with overseas bodies or boards. Please note, it is the student’s responsibility to identify the minimum requirements for overseas registration boards and provide the Student Administration Team with a list of documents to be prepared by the University. Please contact the Student Administration Team once you have gathered all documentation required to apply for overseas professional registration. 

There are a number of field education courses offered as part of the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours), Master of Counselling and Master of Social Work (Qualifying).  Placements are organised by the Field Education Unit, who have a dedicated website for placement related information.
