The below information relates to the new nursing and midwifery curriculum.  Please select from the below links to find semester 1 timetable information relevant to the specific program and year level.

Bachelor of Nursing – Year 1, Sem 1

Courses: BIOM1060, NUMW1102, NURS1101, NURS1103

Full time program with teaching activities on campus spread over 4-5 days, with Friday being CBL day. Days have different timetables and not every class is taught every week, so each week is different.

There is an intensive block placement of 15 clinical shifts across 3 weeks. These shifts are not in the timetable, but the shifts roster will be sent to each student approximately 2 weeks prior to the placement. Roughly half of the students (Group A) continue with classes in Weeks 8 and 9, and undertake their block placement during Weeks 10-12. Group B students undertake their 3 week placement in Weeks 8-10 and continue with classes in Weeks 11 and 12. There are no classes in Week 10, as all the students are on placement this week. As below:

Students will be able to select when they go on placement (A or B, late or early placement) at sign-on, by choosing the corresponding classes.  For instance choosing a class that meets in Weeks 8 and 9 if a student wants to go on late placement from Weeks 10-12.

The two placement days are Tuesday (or Thursday), and Friday. CBL and IBL are either Tuesday or Thursday.

Sign-on for NMSW courses will open 14 January 2019, but students will not need to sign-on to all classes. Where possible the School of NMSW will allocate students to some classes based on the students’ own choice of CBL group, to ensure that students are only signed on for Tuesday classes or Thursday classes, thus freeing the other day for placement.

Each course has its own timetable. There are lectures (L), Clinical Based Learning (B), Inquiry Based Learning workshops (W), Pracs (P) and other class contact (C).

The clinical placement is integrated throughout the semester, starting in Week 5. These shifts are not in the timetable but your roster will be sent to each student approximately 2 weeks prior to the placement.

Most of the compulsory Manual Handling workshops are timetabled in Orientation Week, and are a prerequisite for placement.

This year is similar to the Bachelor of Midwifery Year 2, Semester 1, except that students enrol in MIDW3105 instead of NUMW2101.
