Final-year elective

Students in their final year of study may have the opportunity to undertake a clinical elective in a specialty nursing area of your choice. Electives may be undertaken at any of the clinical schools, other hospitals or healthcare organisations and settings, subject to availability.

Electives are capacity dependent and may be undertaken in the following areas relative to your program:

  • Acute Medical/Surgical
  • Aged Care
  • Community Health
  • Paediatric Care
  • Indigenous Health
  • Mental Health
  • Palliative Care Nursing
  • Rural Health
  • Specialty areas such as Emergency, Intensive Care and Theatre

Bachelor of Midwifery

Master of Nursing Studies 

The Master of Nursing Studies graduate entry program is conducted at the Princess Alexandra Hospital campus with lectures, clinical teaching, and problem-based learning based in the Translational Research Institute. To enter the Master of Nursing Studies program, students must meet the prerequisite learning requirements, including a first degree in another subject that does not lead to nurse registration in Australia. In the final year of study, there will be an opportunity to undertake an elective clinical placement in areas such as paediatric intensive care, emergency, intensive care, coronary care, operating theatres, community health, general practice, Indigenous health, mental health, and rural/remote areas. All placements are subject to availability.
